Storm Ashley destroyed our haybarn so the begging bowl is out, again!
Sunday the 20th of October saw many parts of Ireland under various levels of storm warnings and whilst we were under an orange warning in Clare we weren’t any more concerned beforehand than previous storms. Naturally we did our usual pre-storm prep, securing gates & doors and moved feed bins, equipment, etc out of exposed areas to ensure they would’t vanish or cause damage if they took flight. Some time between 1.45pm and 4.30pm Storm Ashley found a weakness in the structure of our haybarn knocking block pillars, sections of block walls and sending the 20ft x 40ft roof onto the treeline beside the barn.
Thanks to the lack of warm dry spells during the summer the price of hay this winter increased due to less availability, we had approx 65 bales, which cost us over €3,000, in the barn when Ashley struck. Those bales have now been stacked in the yard and covered with tarpaulin, we can only hope that it didn’t get wet enough to start heating internally which would cause mould and rot.
So to the point of our post ………. we need your help to build a new barn. There are various ways you can help:
- Share our appeal on social media
- Make a general donation to us via Debit/Credit Card “General Donations”, via PayPal, via iDonate, or to our bank account ( IBAN – IE13BOFI90421015374523 BIC – BOFIIE2D )
- You or someone you know can help with the rebuild, whether by offering building materials they’re not using or discount on supplies they sell (steel, galvanise sheeting, gravel, concrete) and/or machinery hire.
- Run a fundraising event for us, pass a jar around your place of work/at an event
- Copy our QR Code and ask your friends/family to donate.
- If you have a business we have created a poster which you can download to display
If you don’t want to give a general donation we are also currently selling tickets for this year’s Winter Draw. Tickets are €2.50 each or 5 for €10.
First Prize – €800, Second Prize – €300 & Third Prize is €100
The draw takes place on the 15th of December.
As well as online ticket sales we have physical tickets available, if you can help with selling them on our behalf send us your name, address, phone and email address together with how many books of 10 tickets to send.
Of course as with the haybarn appeal above you could also copy the QR code for the Winter Draw and ask friends/family to buy tickets too.
Just imagine,
if everyone who has heard/hears about the destruction of our haybarn,
gave a little it would help us an awful lot 💡
